Dunkirk
The grounded nature of this movie really sets it out from the usual war epics that makes it Christopher Nolan’s finest. Firstly the visuals are amazing the flying scenes in particular are probably the best I have ever seen in a film besides the new Top Gun, as well as the water looks incredible . It also avoids the pitfalls I have with Nolan’s writing because there isn’t really a story so a lot of the confusing stuff in his other films isn’t present. This movie also contains a lot more emotion as the reactions from the soldiers feel genuine and real because I can connect this to a real event, also the scene where the civilian ships arrive had me in tears and the ending bringing the whole thing together with its theme of hope and spirit. The score is really well done and is used at all the right moments compared to Interstellar where it’s the same 2 notes for 3 hours. In my opinion it’s Nolan’s best work and I hope he can deliver the same emotions with Oppenheimer.
