Get Out
Such a simple horror film manages to some how develop one of the most unique and horrifying concepts for a narrative/theme of all time. Get Out has some of the cleanest set pieces within any horror movie ever, as well. This is only my 3rd watch since the release in 2017, and as a newer film student going into my freshman year of college I’ve started to revisit and look at a lot of different films that i’ve previously seen in a multitude of ways.
Get Out is not marvelous only for it’s technical achievements but for it’s advancements as far as the horror/thriller franchise is concerned. There is SO much foreshadowing that i managed to pick up on this time around. My favorite being the fact that the events in this movie even occur because Roman Armitage lost a race to Jesse Owens in front of Adolf Hitler, stating that "He almost got over it" during the first 30 or so minutes of the film. The score is also very terrifying and every moment in this film combines together to form probably one of the most profound and nail biting psychological horror/thriller experiences of all time.
The mind of Jordan Peele is unmatched. Get Out will officially be 7 years old on February 24th, 2024 in this upcoming new year and it is already up there as one of the greatest horror films of all time next to 15+ year old classics such as Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.
