Dev.D
ill glaze dev d til the day i die.
watching Anurag Kashyap’s magnum opus Dev D in a theatre is nothing less than a dream come true. The nuances and intricacies of the neo-noir underbelly of Delhi with the shades of different raw humans sync with perfect contrast. This is my most rewatched film and watching it again in the theatre this time was kind of a full circle for me coming from a veteran AK admirer. Dev D isn’t just a rendition of DevDas but also a take on the human psyche itself and how different human beings deal with grief. Be it Paro, Chanda or Dev himself, they all struggle with different griefs in their life and they all ultimately redeemed themselves except for Dev who goes into a downward frenzy with drug’s, alcohol and the worst being his obsessive narcissism. The way Kashyap captures the shots and lighting not giving it a monotone colour palette is the perfect way to shoot this film. Watching this unlocked different perspectives atleast for me towards its characters and its very sincere how Kashyap handles them so well.
