Moonlight
At some point, you gotta decide for yourself who you gonna be. Can't let nobody make that decision for you.
This is just a perfect movie. Every single time I watch this film I’m in awe of how rich the story and the visuals are. It’s a painful story of identity and healing which also depicts masculinity in such a tender way it just breaks down every single barrier. The way this movie makes me empathise for Chiron when I don’t relate to him at all has got to be mentioned the film has this way of feeling as if you’re living Chiron’s life. The way Barry Jenkins and Tarell McCraney develop Chiron to be built up by all these influences while showing at the same time this level of independence/loneliness which he had to get to protect him from anymore pain. The parallels between Chiron and Juan in the story are heartbreaking because you know that Chiron became the thing which he despised from the start. This story builds up Chiron with people that try influence his life to help him and right when it feels comfortable they get ripped from him. I don’t know if this will ever stop being my favourite movie it’s just so good.
