Sinners
“Before the sun went down I think that was the best night of my life.” This film has never failed to make me cry. Michael B. Jordan’s acting absolutely floors me— managing to make Smoke and Stack completely contrasting characters despite him playing both roles is such a skill. Even the way the characters carry themselves (their smiles, the way they walk, their mannerisms) are so unique to the character. However, the acting as a whole is just incredible. You spend time learning, dissecting, and knowing the characters before any action happens, which really amplifies the emotional value of the ending (especially the first post-credit scene). Additionally, the music written for this movie has to be my favourite work of Ludwig’s and I couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to the score. There is so much to this movie that I think truly gets overlooked, but part of me thinks that’s why it’s my favourite movie. You won’t find the beauty and truth of it unless you’re looking. It deserved every Oscar it won and more.
