John Wick
Pardon how long this review / analysis will be, but this movie astonished me, especially since I had low expectations for this movie and the most I know about John Wick is that he’s a fucking Fortnite skin ? 😭 Besides the point, I really want to try to talk about the movie from its outset till its ending.
The first scene of his wife collapsing and dying really annihilated me, like actually, especially since my day was filled with emotions it felt melancholic beyond words. It made me hopeful seeing the dog, however, the moment she was killed, I started tweaking again. It deeply saddened me it was more than what I expected.
As the movie goes on, so many themes appear the first one being grief and loss, revenge , the inability to escape your past , greed, and violence, all giving the movie its deeper meaning, which I really admired. Going into brief detail about each theme, I already low-key explained the grief and loss part, but to elaborate more, I truly believe this gave John his extended energy to battle. There are moments where he feels weak for a second at least but fights back when his emotions rush in, and this shows how deep and rooted his emotions were. Not only that, but I feel like the movie portrayed grief in a different aspect that it’s not always crying that we all mourn differently. John has left his assassination past behind, yet he had to pursue it again for revenge maybe it’s insane, but I feel like this symbolized that when we’re filled with emotions of fear , anger, and sadness, we always go back to our old habits or old “ ways of life” that aren’t necessarily healthy. While relating this to greed, John used to kill for money; I mean, that’s the whole point of his job however, after finding love, he let go of that, and he only picked that old job or habit again for the purpose of love, showing how emotionally driven he was.
His character was well written and definitely well played. You can feel his emotions easily without him having to talk about it or elaborate anything, which I find very cool and giving. This movie also gave me a dystopian vibe in a way with the coins , the assassinations, and every messed-up thing that’s going on. I also believe that the film used color design to enforce the themes and ideas, which I find promising. I noticed more blues throughout the movie and sometimes warmer undertones. The movie was visually pleasing overall, and I can’t really state any flaws to it. I really enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to watching the other movies.
oh i also had to mention a lot of this cast was insanely fine 💔
