Les Misérables
There is a fair amount of words that I could employ towards this movie , so I’d like to keep it a bit simple by diving my thoughts into mini fragments.
Commencing with the production and directing of this movie , it was abundantly horrible to say the least. The camera was very shaky, moving a lot while filming, and it seems like there wasn’t a thought process present while directing this film. This has affected many of the audience’s experience, predominantly if they hold no personal attachment to this story , or maybe they’re completely unaware of it. It is pretty salient that this movie was offered an elevated budget given the actors that were cast, which might be a reason for why this movie was bearable to watch for many. However, in my opinion, whether this poor production was intentional or not , I feel like it gave me a glimpse of the past with all its imperfections; it felt more realistic and tangible. Many might disagree, but it was what I truly felt
it saddened me, however, that the storyline was a bit rushed. I understand that it’s a movie, let alone a musical, but I believe that Les Misérables is dreadfully rich in its storyline, and I believe that we were robbed. It deserved two parts to be able to fully tell the story of Fantine , and mostly Cosette, where in the movie we see Cosette as a grown young lady with no prior knowledge of her upbringing. So I genuinely do believe that if this movie had two parts, at least it would’ve enhanced everything generally. I also felt like 2 hours and a half was too lengthy, but I have to admit it’s one of those movies where I was able to pay my full attention, and I enjoyed it dearly.
The reason I’m actually rating this film 5 stars is solely due to the attachment I have to Les Misérables. It was a prominent part of my childhood, and its diegesis touched my heart. I’ll forever be a fan of Les Misérables; this movie moved so many of my emotions and made me shed a couple of tears here and there. Especially the ending as it was bittersweet. Will forever adore Jean Valjean 🤍
(Also, can we appreciate Anne’s acting in this ?!?!?!?! So on point !!! And honestly, the movie is everything I imagined it to be , especially appearance-wise when it came to the characters; it was undoubtedly on point, truly a masterpiece in my opinion with all its flaws. )
