Materialists
I’ve seen so many bad reviews on this movie, and I think it’s mainly because Lucy chose John instead of Harry, so people assumed the movie was romanticizing the idea of getting with the poor guy that’s in love with you instead of the rich guy that will do anything for you. Part of this I can agree with, but watching the movie, I might have a very different opinion. First of all, after what happened with Lucy and Sophie , Lucy looked off, and the way she was acting made it obvious that she wasn’t okay. However, Harry did not notice it, and she also did not have the space or didn’t feel the enough comfort to tell him about it. However , she felt comfortable enough to tell John. He also noticed her mental state and asked about it, which shows the amount of attention he pays to her. Harry also told Lucy in a date they had that tangible assets are temporary, and he wants her for her intangible assets, which sets the point that everything that’s tangible can be lost. We just never know when and how or even why sometimes, which shows that what will always be left of a person is their personality , values , mindset, just them in general. I have to admit we’re all very different people, which was shown by Lucy’s clients how they all have different standards and ideas of their potential soulmate. Many say that the idea of the movie is shallow and it’s something they’ve thought about as a child, but I think it’s a great reminder that the only thing that matters is being with the person that makes you you , makes you fall in love with yourself, and just makes you a happier person overall. It’s a reminder that being materialistic means depending on things that will never last forever.
This review was a long one and a messy one too since it’s very unorganized, but I just wanted to put this out here
i also loved the cinematography. It gave me 2000s romcom vibes, even though everyone disagrees. It’s simply my opinion and what I felt towards this movie.
