Hereditary
This was one of the most comprehensive demonstrations of grief and trauma that I’ve seen in a film to date. It’s gut wrenching, heavy, unsettling, and a psychological trip from beginning to end.
Utilizing paranormal and occult tropes to convey how “demons” are passed down through generations, like they’re Hereditary, is one of the most creative and original storylines I’ve ever seen. Further, Toni Collette was phenomenal and she deserved an Oscar for that performance.
Ari Aster really showcases that horror isn’t just scary masks and slashers; it’s also the harsh and unforgiving realities of life.
