Materialists
idk - seeing a lot of people say this is "broke man propaganda" and i feel like that's a fundamental misunderstanding of the point of the film.
love isn't about numbers, or height or assets. its not logical or mathematical or cold, even if we'd like for it to be that simple - it's a feeling that's out of our control regardless of the circumstances in which we find it: uncomplicated and easy.
i didn't love the casting, but I thought the writing - though very obvious at times vs the subtleties we see in Past Lives, was what really made this film great. Song shows again in this film a talent for breaking down the idea of love and relationship dynamics; finding ways to romanticize something mundane or undesirable just because it's yours or just because it's real, it's worth having, it's valuable.
