SinnersNick9.9· May 14, 2025FollowI have been worried at points that I go too easy on films. Even in the worst movies Ive seen, I usually try to find something good and go easy on it. That being said, Sinners is easily 5 Stars in my book. At this point, it is kind of refreshing to see a film that actually gives a damn about its characters. The obvious answer to this is Michael B Jordan’s Smoke and Stack, who hook you from the second you meet them and leave the screen with their own happily ever afters. The other answer would be Miles Caton’s Sammie, a sweet character who steals the screen every time he pulls out that guitar. But the same level of respect and care is put into Hailee Steinfeld’s Mary, Jayme Lawson’s Pearline, Li Jun Li’s Grace, Saul Williams’s Jedidiah, Andrene Ward-Hammond’s Ruthie, and we will not be forgetting Jack O’Connell’s Remmick. We also can’t forget the cinematography. The movie is, of course, impeccably shot, but the musical sequences are simply something else. Rocky Road to Dublin is filmed in these wide sweeping shots that work perfectly with Jack O’Connell’s singing and choreography. But I Lied to You in simply a cinematic experience. If you had to watch one scene, watch that. All in all, this is a near perfect film that leaves you both in awe at the power of cinema and a little upset at how long it took to get a film like it. 10/10 No Notes.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
