Bo Burnham: Inside
Well, right off the bat, I can say that Bo Burnham really is a genius.Inside, is a true and brutally honest piece, that’s simply all there is to it. The lockdown was an experience like our modern societies never went through and it obviously came with consequences. As Burnham shows it, one is personal. In this, he is capable of truly admirable self-awareness, he quite literally gets naked in front of the camera. In this regard, I find the reaction scene really brilliant. However, the “Inside” of this film goes further than the one of a home or even a personal one. It actually manages to present, in a single piece of work, the every insides of the (more emerged) society as we know it. Internet, capitalism, inequality, politics, relationships… The grasp that we have on those things is warped, and strongly affected by an individualistic tendency, that said lockdown certainly didn’t help. By adressing the global and personal issues simultaneously, Inside illustrates smashingly how closely intertwined they both are, from an individual perspective.
He also makes a very convincing white middle aged woman.
