Queer
(my 3rd serious review guys lock in…)
i remember first watch i left the theater so confused, but i think about this movie so much now. this film will make people divided because while it can feel boring or too long, i feel like it was so worth the watch and moving (at least to me). i initially wanted to give this movie 3 stars right after finishing queer, but at this point it could almost be a 5…
this movie is a mind fuck, it’s insane, but it’s able to show the vulnerability and beauty of a connection. however, it also showcases the despair and haunting past that people experience which was absolutely beautiful. there’s a yearning for connection, showing how humans are in need of it and the gut wrenching results of trying to foster a connection. out of sync love is at the center of this film and i feel more hurt just thinking about it??? the symbolism in this film as well? what the heck!
daniel craig and drew starkey’s performances were outstanding, dare i say drew starkey snubbed this award season? with such small amounts of dialogue he was able to show a stellar performance. the mystery and the need to know more about his character was perfectly pulled off by drew and i absolutely applaud him for this. such a stunning movie and probably my 2nd favorite from luca guadagnino… damn.
also, while i love drew starkey and im obsessed with him, this was the movie that made me appreciate his work and his craft… i went to see this because i’m a sucker for a luca guadagnino film (love you king please don’t fail me with the american psycho remake).
