Scream
This Film changed Horror forever for better and for worse. One of The most significant slasher films ever made, behind only The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This movie makes it clear from the moment audio is heard it has something to say.
Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott is the single most iconic Final Girl ever (yes moreso than Laurie Strode, idgaf!) and here she is one of the most enticing and interesting leading women in horror right away. She is fully fleshed out here and is fighting for her life from the first reel she appears in. She set the bar so high for final girls moving forward, very few have lived up to the bar she set here.
This has my favorite ensemble of horror characters ever, the cast is so natural and charismatic that even looking back and going “yeah no real person would say that” the wacky and over the top dialogue is delivered so naturally it almost never hits me how weird some of the lines are until after the fact.
This film has the best utilized sets I’ve personally ever seen in a horror movie, every single spot filmed at is utilized to its full potential and features at the very least (1) an iconic scene.
The final act is perfect it is wrapped in a bow with a cherry on top. It was made to perfection. I’ve never gotten the high in any horror film ever than I’ve got from Sydney flipping the script on the killers in the final act and playing them with their own game.
It’s a shame stuff went the way it did and I am not excited to see her return in Scream 7, I will not be supporting that film and I’m sad to see a year from now how many of you folded and gave that company your money knowing what was done.
