Closer to a 5> "Why did you get sick" is one of the most demented things I've heard somebody ask. This movie is a horror film in disguise.Rewatching this proved to be a worthwhile experience as I was able to pick up on more the intricacies that are shown throughout this brilliant movie. Julianne Moore gives one of the best performances of her career and the way she functions through this world with AIDS looming in the background and the fatigue of staying at home creates a performance that feels retained which works so well for the ways that Todd Haynes portrays people on this movie, specifically those of Wrenwood. I didn't notice how culty that shit was and it helped accompany the harsh sound design, symmetrical framing, and music to create a quietly unnerving experience. I think I'll need to watch it again to rate it higher but I can now appreciate this movie more due to its incredible screenplay, relevance to today, and just how engaging it was for me.
