Titane
The best film about parenthood since 'Finding Nemo'.I'm talking about this movie congruently with 'Emilia Perez' on Monday for my show (I was going to talk about the show earlier, but I don't know how to restart a computer), and I accidentally realized this made a fascinating double feature. I'm not going to go too in-depth since I need to save energy for the show, but even on a third viewing, this movie still has an impact. I still think that Julia Ducournau's previous film, 'Raw', is better (check it out if you haven't), but 'Titane' can lead to an extremely substantive conversation. The ideas of parenthood, objectification, and gender lends itself well to a female filmmaker's vision. Ducournau's blocking, writing, and visual flair are top-notch, and make this movie stand out from others of its kind. She is very inspired by David Cronenberg, but she manages to make these stories her own. It's crazy that this won the Palme d'Or, but it's certainly an inspired choice.
