After Hours
“I just wanted to leave my apartment, you know? Maybe meet a nice girl…and now I have to die for it!?”
Great movie. One of my favorites. I love Scorsese and this is truly one of his best movies. It’s a shame he doesn’t do more comedies.
I love the creative storyline. In plots where everything goes against the main character the obstacles are usually unrealistic and too comedic. Here, it’s perfect. You actually believe Paul and feel bad for him. This movie also shows that you don’t need a big budget to shoot an absolute classic.
I interpreted After Hours as Paul being the “normal” guy, whereas everyone he meets is a little crazy or a little weird. They all have their own thing. He also said that “he wants to live”, which maybe means that he also wants to be a bit weird, go crazy a little, you know? Live a little. He has a boring desk job. Right? Well, at the end we see him return to his workplace in relief, which shows that he is doing very well on his own, at his desk job.
