Dune
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.”
With the release date of Dune: Part Three announced, I decided to watch the first two movies for the first time. I have not read the book, so I didn’t know what to expect. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised as the first part is one of the greatest sci-fi adventure movies I have ever seen.
Set in a distant future, Dune: Part One by Denis Villeneuve follows the story of Paul Atreides, the heir of House Atreides. In my view, the first act was all about Paul growing up. It is referenced in the beginning when Paul is talking with his father about his future. Paul says that he doesn’t want to become the lord. At the end, we see him join the fremen and say: “My road leads into the desert. I can see it,” — thus, confirming that he has found his path at the end.
As for the technical elements, the CGI, the visuals and the music are all top-tier. Amazing score by Hans Zimmer as always. The music grounds you into the film and immerses you into the story. You forget that most of it is just green screen. Great performances from the whole cast, especially Rebecca Ferguson who stole every scene she was in. Timothee is very good too.
I’m very excited to watch Dune: Part Two as I really enjoyed the first instalment.
