Fargo

There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it.
Fargo (1996) does not seize to amaze. I found the screenplay to be highly enjoyable and incredibly pieced together. Fargo is without a doubt one of the highlights of the Coen brothers’ filmography. In my personal view, I found Fargo to be slightly below No Country for Old Men (2007) on a technical level, but this certainly does not mean I disliked Fargo. On the other hand, I consider this movie to be one of my favorites now based on both pure enjoyment value and technical elements.
Addressing the elephant in the room, it turns out that this movie is in fact not based on a true story. The initial frame of Fargo reads: "THIS IS A TRUE STORY". When in reality, the story is totally fictional. Everything that is depicted in the movie has never happened in real life. However, I have not questioned the realism for a second during my watch of Fargo. I was only skeptical of how they managed to find the money and write about it in the movie.
Thus, when I began searching for the inspiration for Fargo on the internet, I realized that this was simply a clever trick by the directors. And I must admit that this trick has its perks. I would have to agree with the fellow internet stranger who said the reason for this idea might have been to remove any judgmental thoughts regarding the storyline in the audience which worked beautifully.
I still cannot get over the fact that the Coen brothers wrote this from scratch. The whole idea of a man hiring crooks to deliberately kidnap his wife in order to get some money is unprecedented and unique. Therefore, the screenplay and the directing are great. The excessive use of "Yah!" is complemented by quirky though amazing acting. Steve Buscemi and Frances McDormand stood out to me the most.
All the scenarios in the movie are connected not only with the town Fargo, but also themes of betrayal and money, in my opinion. Jerry, Carl and Gaear all want money and are ready to backstab anyone that gets in their way. However, I consider the only flaw in Fargo to be the lack of focus on the actual investigation from Marge's side. I believe this part could have been done better. Furthermore, some of the filler scenes were completely unnecessary.
To sum up, Fargo really impressed me. One of my favorites in the Coen brothers' filmography. But let me say this. Overall, is Fargo a chilling, thrilling, and exciting masterpiece? You betcha, yah!
