The Lighthouse

Far and away my favourite Robert Eggers project so far. I feel this is the movie where I can see his vision the most clearly thanks in large part to his impeccable direction. The combination of the small aspect ratio and the decision to shoot this in black and white not only aides in establishing this as a period piece, but also to enhance the already present claustrophobic nature of the the lighthouse and the island it sits on. I love the sound design the foghorn always in the background really helps to sell the paranoia the characters are experiencing. Dafoe and Pattinson are insane they bounce of each other so well such a masterclass in acting. Dafoe is so electric whenever he breaks into monologue. Nothing much else to add could talk about my theories but then I’d risk looking like a dumbass so I won’t 😁.  10/10
