Donnie Darko
“Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?” "Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?”
In order to be intellectually honest, I have to admit that my opinion about this movie may be biased, as it is my absolute favorite movie of all time. That said, Donnie Darko is a surreal and sometimes paradoxical film, which at first sight, despite having a simple plot, is able to confuse the viewer. The clear inspirations at Lynch transport the viewer through a journey into the evisceration of the human soul. The clear intention to tell a socio-political reality of Reagan's 1980s America turns into a sometimes grotesque experience. I always saw in Jake Gyllenhaal's wonderful acting rehearsal, the representation of that malaise, that melancholy of life particularly felt by the teenagers of that era, era of which I am a part of, and perhaps that's why I consider it my favorite movie, I never reflected myself and at the same time understood by anything else like Donnie Darko.
