The Evil Dead
"Good, Bad, I'm The Guy With A Gun"
The first movie of the best horror trilogy ever is in my opinion a pure idyll from start to finish. The debut directing by Sam Raimi is a completely visual film, made just to throw powerful images in the face of the spectator, in the first part the tension is winding, but already strong in its manifestation (the ground-level shots along the woods) and after the dull scene of rape trees, the film explodes, the blood begins to flow copiously without stopping until the end, the intention was precisely to trigger a reaction in the spectator, make him run away disgusted from the room or nail him terrified to the screen Rob Tapert still tells about a friend of his, who took a girl to their first date at the cinema to see “La Casa”, result: the girl jumps on the guy at the first scary scene and stays hugged by him all the time. For the record, the two are still married today (true story). Raimi showed to know the horror, its tricks and its codes, in fact the movie does not invent much at the level of content, the story is pretty standard, but it is in the staging that is revolutionary: Raimi begins to infect the Horror with the splastick (and will reach the top in the next chapter of the trilogy), without ever expiring in the parody. This is not a Horror-Comedy as they come out a penny to the dozen today, but it's comic grafts (or grotesque) that leave totally unchanged the fear, when "The Evil Dead" must scare, it does. Strongly.
