Nosferatu
no words 🚫
just joshing
hella words 💅
“I’ve been nothing but nice to you through everything.”
“You tied me up.”
umm oscar nomination when… 🏆
after they called Ellen hysterical for what she was saying, belittled her worries, refused to listen to her, and tied her up, removing her of all autonomy, she begged Thomas not to love her, because she believed that Nosferatu had tainted her, that she had invited this intrusion into Germany simply out of her own longing to feel loved
Lily Rose-Depp gives the most freaking insane performance I have ever seen a human being give during this movie that was like actually insane like woah very awesome
the shame and self hatred that Ellen feels in this film is terrifically acted, and the whole time it was giving me Steven Dietz Dracula (Bram Stoker novel play adaptation) vibes 🖤
they should call the guy “Robert Eggers” “Robert Edgers” because this movie is really “freaky”, if you are picking up what I’m putting down… 🦇 it is because the consent of Edging is a sexual reference. I was doing some word play
this is my favorite piece of Nosferatu/Dracula media I’ve ever seen. vampire media to me is mostly about the themes of shame and sexuality, possession, assault, and explorations of power dynamics, this movie takes that and runs with it, giving us a brilliantly crafted movie that is unafraid to delve into those themes. this film is entirely focused on Ellen and thank goodness because she eats the house down, boots 🥾. I love this movie so much, it’s a love letter to all of its respective iterations, Nosferatu and Dracula alike 🫶
“I’m not a romantic, I’m an appetite.” EVIL EVIL
I keep seeing people online call this movie a love story when it completely isn’t, Nosferatu is a predator, an unstoppable hunger that yearned to take whenever Ellen had nothing left to give, her darkness is not supposed to be her active want for him, but her guilt from letting herself be with him in the first place. Nosferatu is the personification of the knowledge that she had invited this destructive force into her life when she was too young to realize that it would not only change the way she thinks about life forever, but would end her life as well.
The happiest face Ellen makes is when she describes her dreams of dying to Thomas, as life under Orlock’s hauntings feels too unbearable, but she cannot tell Thomas entirely why, because why would Thomas understand? Thomas could not understand the guilt she carries, and because of the times Ellen, as well as the rest of society, only shames her because of it. I thought Thomas a bit annoying idk why, but she love him so I fw Thomas too, tbh this movie feels like Ellen and her obsessive mindset that she should feel ashamed of herself every waking moment against the world. You js wanted to be loved girl you didn’t do anything wrong.
Count Orlock is an intrusion, a destructive force invited into her life without knowledge of what would follow, and the guilt and shame of that intrusion personified through him was brilliant
side note, so glad I got to play Renfield at my school and became an enjoyer of the themes of Nosferatu and other Dracula media to appreciate this movie even more, read Dracula everybody 🧛♂️🐀 Bram Stoker rocks
