The Penguin
A classic penguin moment 🐧
One of the best comic-book shows of all time! 🥳
A horrifying deconstruction of class, perspective, pure evil, and manipulation. Rewatching The Batman after seeing this will probably be a fundamentally different experience, I can never look at Matt Reeves Gotham environment or The Penguin (the Batman character played by Colin Farrell) the same again.
Cristin Milioti deserves an Emmy for her role as Sofia Falcone, her performance throughout the entire show (and most definitely her character’s episode, episode 4) was amazing, witnessing the manipulation of her character was terrifying, it’s amazing because narratively she is the hero of the story and narratively we see her villainized through Oz’s “perspective”.
Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar was fantastic, the duality between him and Oz as well as the themes of class represented with his character that reflect the political system of Gotham is a highlight of the show for me.
Deirdre O'Connell as Francis Cobb ate, nobody in a thousand lifetimes could perform that role as well as she did, it was absolutely remarkable and horrifying to see everything terrible happen to her and everyone around Oz, which brings me to what I appreciate most about this show.
👏 Colin Farrell 👏
This guy was under like 100+ pounds of makeup doing a New York accent for like 8 hours, playing a batman villain, and it’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Like damn, Colin Farrell can play one evil motherfucker. Needing to rewatch The Banshees of Inisherin, this show was the bees knees 🐝
Seeing that Bat signal at the end when Oz had won was ethereal, I hope he gets what’s coming for him in The Batman Part II, and I hope Sofia Falcone plays a prominent part in it, she doesn’t really need to be institutionalized they just don’t understand her game, such a good show 🔥
