Enchanted
**1️⃣8️⃣MOVIES FOR THE FIRST 18 YEARS OF MY LIFE
——————————————————
Part 5️⃣ ~ “Enchanted” 🗽👗🐿️🍎🏙️🐉
Age: 5
**
5️⃣ Me and Enchanted are both turning 18 this year. And the main male character and i have the same name: Robert (i was obsessed with this fact when i was a kid).
5️⃣ This and the last movie (POTC 4) represent a different, smaller era of my love for films: me starting to watch live action movies. Sure, they were all fantasy (POTC, Enchanted, Ella Enchanted), but they weren’t animated (i still continued to watch the Disney classic, don’t worry).
5️⃣ I remember the day i bought the DVD with this movie. I was at a store with my father and my grandmother in the summer of 2013. My father was at a different aisle while me and my grandma were at the DVDs section. And i saw the cover for this movie and i was like “OMG I NEED THIS RNN”. And i wanted to ask my father to get it for me when he came by. And when he did come, he already had the Enchanted DVD in his hand, saying he saw the cover and thought i’d like it.
5️⃣ Unfortunately i don’t remember my first watch if this movie :( . But i do recall that i rewatched this movie with my parents, in their bedroom, the night before my first day of school ever. And this movie wasn’t dubbed in my first language, so it was one of the first movies i watched in english.
5️⃣ This is such a good story, no wonder i loved it. It’s a modern fairytale, it’s funny, it has good songs, it has everything. It’s “making fun” of the classic fairytales in a way, but it also is a love letter to them, so it is the perfect movie.
5️⃣ Oh, and OFC i was obsessed with the concept of traveling from an animated world to a live action world (i also became a huge fan of Once Upon A Time a couple of months after first watching this movie, so the whole “fairytale characters in a modern setting” concept was very appealing to me).
5️⃣ I just now realized that this movie might have subconsciously influenced my love for Barbie (2023) cuz there are some plot similarities.
5️⃣ I blame this movie for my obsession with NYC (and Home Alone 2). I was lucky enough to visit New York twice since first watching this film, and NYC would be my dream hometown if it didn’t mean living in the USA. But i do know everything about Manhattan now: neighborhoods, touristic areas, coffee shops etc. It’s my fav city. Who doesn’t love NYC? And i still want to live there for a year or so after i become rich and famous.
5️⃣ The princess cameos are one of the best things about the film. I wasn’t aware of them when i was 5, but i did learn about them at around 7/8 yo. But i actually only knew about Ariel, Belle and Pocahontas (and ig Elsa if you count it), but ONLY TODAY i found out about Cinderella amd Aurora. And ofc Mary Poppins is the narrator. One of the best tributes to the iconic Disney fairytales.
5️⃣ Let’s talk soundtrack and score. Alan Menken X Stephen Schwartz?!?!?! Ofc i had no idea who these two were back in 2013, but now i admire both of them sm. Best collab in movie soundtrack history! (after Alan and Howard ofc). “That’s how you know” is so iconic and one of the best disney songs!
5️⃣ The whole cast is perfect. All main 6 characters being played by incredibly famous actors?! And they all portrayed their characters so well that i love each of the 4 main characters almost equally.
5️⃣ AMY ADAMS AS GISELLE MIGHT BE THE BEST DISNEY LIVE ACTION CASTING SINCE JULIE ANDREWS AS MARY POPPINS. And for sure the best one since. She literally embodied Giselle. I love her performance and her character SO MUCH. She’s so funny and relatable. She and Barbie should be bffs. Fav unofficial disney princess (after Esmeralda).
5️⃣ Speaking of characters, i think Nancy and Edward are so cute together. And i love how they were both so understanding (maybe a bit too understanding) of Robert and Giselle leaving them to be together. Now, there’s obviously a HUGE difference. Edward knew Giselle for a day. Nancy has been dating Robert for 5 years. I think her breakup with him is actually very sad. But hey, she ended up with the love of her life Edward so ig all’s well when it ends well.
5️⃣ Also, i was Narissa’s biggest fan (how many times must i say i was a villains kid?). Her character design was SOO COOL. And she was evilly funny.
5️⃣ I was really excited for the sequel even tho it came out at a dark time of my life when Disney wasn’t one of the biggest thing about my life anymore (dw, now it means everything to me again). But even in my dark years (early teenage years) i was so looking forward to the sequel cuz i love the og so much. Did it dissapoint? Ofc. But it was a relatively fun movie, if you don’t compare it to the first one. I still don’t know how i feel anout making Giselle a villain tho… Ah and ofc i haven’t reatched the sequel since fall 2022 :)
5️⃣ Yes, i turned up to be the biggest James Marsden enthusiast (i wanted to use a different word but i decided to keep it PG). And just imagine going on a date around NYC with James Marsden in his prince coatume, with a tourist camera around his neck and a hotdog in his hand…
5️⃣ I used to prefer Edward over Robert for a long time (bc James Marsden), but now i love them both equally. And Nancy too. Giselle is at the top tho, she’s one of the best Disney characters ever.
5️⃣ Moral of the story: this film made me want to move to New York, have a fairytale romance with a prince James Marsden there and go on dates through Central Park and occasionally at a ball or two.
“Honey, do you really think your dream boy exists?”
