Almost Famous
Lester Bangs*: “Aw, man. You made friends with them. See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong.”*
William Miller: “Well, it was fun.”
I can’t fathom the way this film makes me feel, it’s something else I mourn a place that doesn’t exist. I feel this film so deeply the emotions it sends me through from start to finish and the way I cry as Russell and penny lane look at each other…and then William and Russell stands up and she runs off that scene makes my heart ache.
William Miller: “I have to go home.”
Penny Lane: “You are home”
I love the tiny dancer scene but this part in particular means so much he just wanted a place to belong and so did she and they found each other and he loved her but she just wanted to be loved. This is such a complexed film when you think into it there is so much to it of friendship, love, longing and belonging out of the norms of society and finding yourself. I could talk for hours about how amazing this film is and Cameron Crowe directed it beautifully the way it is filmed the colours the cloths the dialogue it is just so very perfect and I think it’s one of them films of self discovery of the characters and yourself as the audience the way we see ourselves in characters and wish to be others to understand it on a deeper level I love this film in conclusion and the soundtrack is something else the songs fit perfectly, complementing the scene down to every last word when you listen carefully.
Penny Lane: “I always tell the girls, never take it seriously, if ya never take it seriously, ya never get hurt, ya never get hurt, ya always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.”
