Nowhere
“i got kidnapped by space aliens.”
finally watched gregg araki’s final film for his teen apocalypse trilogy: nowhere is an overload of color, sex, paranoia, and emotional detachment that nails youth alienation. it feels like a spiral of disconnected people desperate to be seen, drifting through surreal encounters. the elements that he uses in his later on films are really visible here. especially that alien storyline that he later refines in mysterious skin and i also was getting a lot of kaboom inspiration from this film.
that scene of egg really messed me up and i am still thinking of it. it was abrupt, disturbing and impossible to forget. that ending gutted me. it was bizarre and overwhelming, then after the credits it was james duval screaming. that was a real footage of me trying to process everything that happened. my final ranking for these three films are: nowhere, the doom generation, and lastly, totally fucked up. it might change since i am planning on rewatching these films soon. i love james duval and gregg araki, best duo.
