I could see myself not liking this as much under different circumstances and getting more caught up in some minor flaws but it is really hard to be mad at something that takes so many risks and just executes so many of them like of course a few things won’t land for everyone but wholly smokes do I think this has the ability and potential to appeal to a huge audience if it gets the right attention You practically forget both characters are Michael b Jordan after the first half hour and they just each become their own fleshed out character that you view the story throughThe music throughout this is also impeccable the emphasis on blues and grassroots I mean that shit is crazy layered and insanely powerful  What an introduction for miles Caton both as a actor and as a resonant voice of blues it’s incredible what he did in this movie and I can’t wait to see more from him There was absolutely no need for this to cross so many genres and overlay so many ideologies and creative techniques however it absolutely crushes each one and I think a lot of that has got to be due to Ryan coogler I mean to orchestrate all of this is well beyond my imagination but I’m not super surprised that he’s the next director to really capture his own voice in a major box office film I mean his work with Michael b Jordan is iconic and they are a legendary duo in the making My only real issue with this is that I wish it left a little more for the audience to infer and linger with and discover on there own but I understand how with taking so many risks and needing a larger payoff at the box office that a lot of people involved in the making would feel it necessary to explain more as to not risk having a portion of the audience walking out confused/dissapointed/unfulfilled/ just straight up mad but with that being said I really hope this works more as a stepping stone in cooglers career and he’s able to make even more independently stylistic pieces that don’t feel they need someone’s approval No I don’t think Ryan coogler will dip off after this point but even if he does this is a worthy magnum opus Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez gotta be furious they couldn’t make from dusk till dawn this good
