Perfect Blue
Got to rewatch this masterpiece in theatres (for the 4th time lol). Something I noticed this time around how Satoshi intentionally depicts his characters as average looking, outside of people that should look above that like Mima. All his works operate like this but with this movie he specifically uses appearances to tell you about the characters, at times exaggerating ugliness.
This is highlighted in a shot I never noticed before that mocks traditional anime art. A scene opens on a close up of a hyper-cutesy anime girl before the door it’s on slides open to reveal very average looking characters. There’s so many little details like this all over this film it really utilizes the medium to its fullest.
Rip Satoshi Kon fr, this movie aged like fine wine
