Until DawnBrody McCourt9.9· April 27, 2025FollowNON-BIAS RATING-⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 I do not know how fans of the game are upset with this movie, it’s bloody, has tons of references and I NEED A BREAK DOWN OF THE LAST 5 MINUTES BECAUSE MY JAW ACTUALLY DROPPED. MATPAT COME BACK JUST FOR THIS MOVIE And people saying that it has nothing to do with the game have either not watched the movie or not played the game because the connections are Litteraly insane. NOW GETTING INTO SPOILERS- Now getting into how I actual feel about everything that goes on in this film, I genuinely think it is a good horror movie for horror fans. Despite how they clearly separate themselves from the game I think it was nice the little tid bits and references we see over the course of the movies and how possibly the ending is either adding to the lore and hinting at a sequel. Although alot of people thought some of the characters were dull, I thought it was cute how much they care for each other and how they change as the nights progress. Clover getting over the grief of her sister as she replays the horrors over and over again and how theres some conflict between the group over some of the decisions they make but in the end they realize they need each other to get through it. I don't want to say they handled these characters perfectly but you definitely need to look deeper than just surface level. It’s upsetting they different go a different route with them knowing that the game is known for its interesting characters that play with common horror tropes in an interesting way. They had so much potential but in the end are very lackluster. Also disappointed they dropped the turning on each other thing with Abe, it’s almost he Litteraly forgot that Nina murdered him ?? 😭😭😭 The practical effects I think is what really make this a good horror movie. The kills were insane and so shocking, plenty of jump-scares that definitely made me jump. Like the Bad Water night was just so shocking and you can tell they put a lot of love into the making of these kills and with how creative they are. Especially with the eye ball kill, that was just so brutal and so well done I think they did such a great job creating that horror environment. I definitely think fans of like terrifier, or saw and really any movie that focus on gore are gonna enjoy this film. With the way this ties to the game I think the way used the time loop was how they incorporated their way of the butterfly effect. Obviously they cannot do what was done in the game in a cinematic setting but I think it was a good idea to really keep that essence of the game alive. They relive the night and try again making different choices from the previous night to try and get a better outcome. And in that I kinda laughed because thats exactly what a lot of people did playing UNTIL DAWN, they kill a character and want to restart to save them which these characters reference ALOT and I really enjoyed that. Im also glad that they not only reference UNTIL DAWN, but it seems there was THE QUARRY spit in there too with the werewolf and the witch. Now the ending I feel like the twist with Dr.Hill was not that bad. I think it was cool seeing him play the role of villian and im wondering how that ties in with the game seeing the events of the lodge appear at the end of the film. Leads to a lot of theories which I am EATING. UP. Like is this a prequel? A Seuqel? Were the events at the lodge all triggered by Dr.Hill? Or was that the reason Dr.Hill Started experimenting? Was Josh the only non survivor in UNTIL DAWN and thats why the psycho is part of the night? And in the game were they actually reliving the night over and over but for the games sense it was just one big play through? Or something totally different and the events we see at the end is the investigators after the events of the lodge? It just leads to a lot of questions which are fun to go through. Overall I think this movie is well done and alot of people need to get over the fact this isn’t a copy and paste of the game but a spin off which was said multiple times. Horror is a genre where it’s hard to get a SOLID movie out of. And I think David handled this movie well enough to give fans and non fans a fun time in the theater.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the appSee all Brody's reviews for Until Dawn (2)First watch9.9April 27, 2025Rewatch 19.9May 24, 2025
