His style literally leaves me in aw every time I watch any of his movies! ꩜ Araki captures a very specific end of the millennium anxiety. While the movie looks like a pack of Skittles, its heart is pure dread. Every character is searching for meaning in a world that offers them nothing but pop culture, drugs, sex, and crippling anxiety! ꩜ Long before it was mainstream, Araki was depicting a world where sexuality and identity were completely fluid. Everyone is everything, and labels are secondary to feelings! ꩜ The production design is loud. We’re talking saturated primary colours, rooms that look like art installations, and fashion that sits somewhere between rave and thrift store chic. It’s a hyper-stylized version of LA that feels more claustrophobic as time goes on! ꩜ I still can't get over them damn windows, I talked about them in my last review on this movie but I just think its such a clever way to depict a world that isn't completely together like there puzzle pieces put in the wrong place! ꩜ *dreamcore/weirdcore list!* *
