Summer Wars

Rewatched in 4k in a movie theater, genuinely a dream come true in terms of getting to watch this movie. It’s funny that every time I return to this now nearly 20 year old movie it feels more and more relevant; last time I sat down and watched it were we in full swing of the internet of things movement, and right now we are in the disastrous AI era. The fact that “AI trained for hacking was unleashed on an unsuspecting public internet and is wreaking havoc oh and also it’s sponsored by the us military” isn’t even an absurd concept anymore is uhhhhhh Asides from the horrors of that part of the movie becoming less and less absurd, the slice of life/familial side of the movie remains as great as ever. The animation continues to be stunning, even the CGI ended up looking pretty good in a 4k remaster due to it’s stylization.  This is one of my favorites for a reason, because as silly and insane as it can get with its sci-fi aspects, at its core is a great film about family!  Anyways gkids please release a 4k Blu-ray that isn’t amazon exclusive that would be great okay thank you
