Metropolis
What a wild and stunning vision of our future/present.
It was much more saccharine than I expected, but the underlying themes of capitalistic malice still come through.
The set pieces are absolutely incredible. The architecture and style still rival most movies that have come out in the nearly 100 years since Metropolis’ debut, and the “Man-Machine” is so haunting, especially with those pinhole-pupils.
This was a great final movie to watch on MUBI before my free 4-year student membership ended, which, by the way, is a thing that you should be taking advantage of if you’re a student.
