Barbie
let me just say, i went in thinking it was gonna be this cute, fun, pink-filled movie, and i came out shook. it’s not just a movie about a doll, it’s like a whole commentary on society, feminism, and the absolute absurdity of the world we live in, and i’m HERE for it.
margot robbie as barbie? of course she’s perfect. she’s this literal embodiment of the “ideal” woman, but you see her unraveling throughout the movie in the most subtle but powerful way. ryan gosling as ken? wow. he steals every scene he’s in. i wasn’t expecting to laugh this much, but his energy is just so extra and hilarious that i couldn’t help but love him.
but here’s the thing: while it’s funny and the costumes are insane (like, who wouldn’t want to live in barbie land?), it’s also real. the movie dives into the weird, unrealistic expectations society has of women and men, and it does it in the most clever, satirical way. it’s like, yes, we’re talking about a doll, but we’re also talking about life, gender roles, and the pressures of “perfection.”
the whole vibe of the movie is just wild—one second you’re laughing, the next second you’re like, “wait, am i actually thinking too much about this?” the visuals are insane too, with the set design and colours being a whole vibe. everything’s so exaggerated, but it feels so intentional.
honestly, i wasn’t expecting this movie to hit me as hard as it did. it’s funny, emotional, and way smarter than people give it credit for. i was expecting just a feel-good time, but i got way more than that. barbie is lowkey an iconic commentary on gender, and i’m obsessed with it. 9.5/10. also, the soundtrack? i’m still playing it on repeat.
