Challengers
okay so challengers has literally ruined my life. like i went in expecting a fun, slightly dramatic tennis movie and instead got a full-blown psychological WAR disguised as sports. this is not about tennis. this is about obsession, manipulation, and the most toxic love triangle i’ve ever seen in my life. i am unwell.
zendaya as tashi duncan?? mother. like actually one of her best performances ever. she’s not just playing a former tennis star, she’s out here controlling the entire game—both on and off the court. she’s calculated, confident, and lowkey terrifying in the best way. and the way she has these two men (josh o’connor and mike faist) wrapped around her finger for YEARS?? iconic. she’s literally playing chess while they’re struggling to play checkers.
but let’s talk about patrick and art for a second because their relationship is actually so messy i wanted to scream. best friends turned rivals turned ??? i don’t even know. the tension is CRAZY. like one second they’re competing, the next they’re lowkey about to kiss, and then they’re throwing hands. it’s giving “i hate you but i also might be in love with you” and i ate it up.
also. the tennis scenes. why did they feel so INTIMATE. like why was i blushing over people hitting a ball back and forth. the way it’s shot makes you feel like you’re right there, like every movement, every breath, every bead of sweat means something. the whole movie is just so charged with emotion that even a LOOK between characters feels like a full-blown monologue.
anyway. this movie had me gripping my seat, screaming internally, and questioning my entire existence. the tension is insane, the chemistry is unreal, and i have never cared about a tennis match more in my life. 10/10. i need to lie down.
