Pride & Prejudice
this movie is actual romance perfection. like, the tension, the stares, the hand flex??? i have never felt more single in my life.
first of all, keira knightley as elizabeth bennet?? unmatched. she was so sharp, so witty, so independent, and the way she was not about to let some rich man with social anxiety ruin her day? iconic. and then matthew macfadyen as mr. darcy??? yeah. that man was out here falling apart every time lizzie breathed in his direction.
the way their whole relationship is just miscommunication and longing?? darcy was literally in love from the second he met her, but he was so socially awkward he just made it seem like he hated her. and then when he professes his love in the most insulting way possible?? like, “i love you despite my better judgement”??? sir. please.
but then the letter??? when we find out he’s not actually evil and that wickham is the real villain??? and the way lizzie realises she misjudged him but is too proud to admit it??? and then the rain scene??? the almost kiss??? the hand flex after he helps her into the carriage??? yeah. cinema has never been the same.
and then the best part—the sunrise scene. the way he’s just walking through that field at dawn, looking so soft and in love, and then he just whispers “you must know, surely you must know, it was all for you”??? i died. i actually died. and the forehead touch?? over.
100000/10. jane austen wrote romance, but joe wright filmed it.
