The Devil Wears Prada
this movie is a vibe. i mean, who wouldn’t want to work at a fashion magazine in new york? but also, the whole thing with meryl streep as miranda priestly? pure evil genius. like, she’s cold, she’s ruthless, but so good at it. i love how she totally owns the role, and you can’t help but be both terrified and in awe of her.
anne hathaway as andy? i felt her struggle. like, she starts out super out of her depth, just trying to keep up with the crazy expectations, and you see her slowly lose herself in the job. i think that’s what hits the hardest—how easy it is to get caught up in work and forget what’s really important.
the fashion, of course, is on point. i loved seeing all the high-end designers and, like, just the whole world of fashion portrayed so glamorously. but also, the movie has this whole message about personal sacrifice and finding balance between work and life, and it really makes you think about what you’re willing to give up to get ahead.
but let’s talk about her ex-boyfriend for a second. he literally broke up with her when she was starting to make moves in her career, and that just pissed me off. he didn’t understand her ambitions at all, and instead of being supportive, he just bailed. i honestly think he was the villain here. and the part where andy decides to leave her job for him? okay, i get it—relationships are tough, but after everything she went through to get to that point, i couldn’t understand why she’d give it all up. like, she was finally being respected and earning her spot, and he wanted her to choose him over her career? nah. personally, i wouldn’t have left that job. it’s like, why walk away from something you worked so hard for just for someone who didn’t even appreciate what you were doing?
and then when she goes back to talk to him? he was just so smug about it, like he hadn’t done anything wrong, and i honestly couldn’t believe she was even entertaining that. it was frustrating to watch, and i felt like she deserved so much better than that.
and the ending? like, i really appreciated how it wasn’t a perfect ending. i love that andy doesn’t just stay in the world of high fashion, and she finds her own path. it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about staying true to yourself.
9/10. it’s fun, it’s dramatic, and it’s got that perfect mix of humour and real-life lessons. a classic, but the whole ex-boyfriend drama just rubbed me the wrong way.
