Zootopia
this movie had no right being that good. like i went in thinking, “okay, cute animals doing cop things whatever,” and came out like, “wow that was actually an insanely smart and nuanced metaphor for systemic bias and prejudice in society disguised as a kids movie with a bunny and a fox.”
judy hoops is the literal definition of “don’t underestimate me” and i love her for that. she’s small, she’s optimistic, she’s the first bunny cop ever, and she’s got something to prove. and then there’s nick wilde… now listen. i’ve never in my life been attracted to an animated fox. like, i’m not a furry. i don’t even get that whole thing. but nick?? he was fine. like the voice, the swagger, the sarcasm, the lowkey tragic backstory?? that fox could get it. i'm sorry. i don’t make the rules.their dynamic?? elite. the banter?? perfect. the chemistry?? off the charts. judy and nick were soulmates and disney knew it. they just didn’t act on it and honestly? cowards.
also let’s talk about how deep this movie went?? they tackled real themes like racial profiling, microaggressions, propaganda, and how fear is used to justify discrimination — all wrapped up in a pg-rated, brightly animated animal movie. that scene where judy says something hurtful to nick and he just looks at her with that disappointment and sadness?? that was real. like this movie did not dumb it down. it said “you’re gonna feel this and you’re gonna learn something too.”
also: the sloth dmv scene? historic. cinematic. comedy gold. flash flash hundred yard dash is a legend in his own right.
so yeah. zootopia is a masterpiece, nick wilde made me question things, and i’m never recovering from how emotionally layered a bunny and a fox made me feel.
10/10. would watch again. would simp again.
