Bugonia
it was just two days ago when i was back home with my parents who have opposing political beliefs. i try not to start arguments because i know we will never convince each other otherwise, yet one inevitably persisted. what started as a calm conversation turned into a yelling match and subsequent “alone time”. in an effort to enlighten one another, we destroyed each other. i’d like to think that we’re acting on our own accord; that we have purpose and some substance behind our opinions, but maybe that’s not true. maybe we’re just mouth holes spewing rhetoric in a system that’s meant to create a divide between us — and everyone for that matter. we’re apes that have evolved and evolved to the point where we’re almost primal again, with a need to fight and stand our ground even if that means destroying our own kind.
i mean c’mon, what an incredible allegory for today’s social and political climate. we create these accusations towards everyone but ourselves to distract us from the fact that maybe we’re all the ones to blame. we think that if we prod and pick and yell at each other, a winner will emerge in the end. although, we’re too stupid to see that the only finish line we’re heading towards is one that involves total self destruction, and there’s no correct opinion once we’re all reduced to flesh on the side of the sidewalk.
insert “and who set that system up” meme
outside of the deeply resonating message at the end, what a fun ride. it just kept upping the anti. i truly thought in true yorgos fashion that we’d get an ambiguous ending, and i was delightfully surprised. i was dying at the apolitical phrases emma stone was saying though. hearing “let’s start a dialogue” was incredibly scary having just come from a full day of corporate jargon. also, please inject that tracking shot of jesse plemons on the bike soaked in blood into my veins. that was insane.
