Maestro

A masterpiece. Maestropiece! So glad I revisited it. Knowing what to expect and how to appreciate it on its own terms made everything click. It starts off with the Lenny quote, “a work of art does not answer questions, it provokes them; and its essential meaning is in the tension between the contradictory answers”. He was messy and contradictory in his life and music and relationships, refused to be what others wanted/expected of him I love how this movie almost antagonistically avoids being a ‘biopic’ The direction is out of the world. Just breathtaking And I challenge anyone who is doing anything other than praising Cooper’s performance to go back and rewatch the scene where he’s talking to his daughter and appreciate his reaction after she says she’s relieved! My god. A triumph!
