Drive
Wow. That was fantastic.
The movie starts out all cool and mysterious, and then it slowly builds until all at once it becomes very dark and convoluted.
Ryan Gosling is perfect in this role. The supporting cast is excellent.
Ryan Gosling’s character seems to be a good guy, with an extremely dark side that he sort of tames with his driving. It’s almost like a thrill. Except when people he cares about are involved, then he’s more serious. He’s complex. He’s sort of this anti-hero, and it’s executed perfectly.
Also the cinematography and score are excellent. It just looks so... cool. The score is suspenseful and it conveys every emotion perfectly. It’s also one of the first movies that I’ve noticed how good the sound editing is. As for the soundtrack, the dark pop fits the serious tone, while still conveying the laid back coolness of the Driver.
