This was one of those films that was incredibly uncomfortable to watch, but is also a masterpiece unfolding before your eyes so you force yourself through. And it’s absolutely worth it. The suspense was in full force the entire time, driving every scene. Jake Gyllenhaal’s Detective… Loki is a fantastic character— you can really tell he cares about the girls and their families, and Hugh Jackman’s Dover is the emotional core of the film. We feel his anger and his desperation, but we also feel his determination and just how far he’s willing to go. I will say, ominous endings piss me off, but they don’t take away from my love of the film.
