Coco
Coco - A heavy story, disguised in a children’s animation
Coco is a movie from 2017, directed by Lee Unkrich. This movie is about Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), a 12 year old boy who looks up to Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt), who is a famous Mexican musician. And he grows up in a family where they hate music. But Miguel has a passion for music, taking Ernesto’s guitar. Leading him to The Land of the Dead, a beautiful, colorful world where the dead end up. But he will turn into a skeleton by sunrise, how will he get out before?
Coco is a animation, and I know a lot just think «Animation is only for kids». And their correct in that animation is nearly always for kids, but what they are missing, is the moral of the stories. It can be like this movie, a children’s vibrant animation, but underneath, it’s a sad story about family, betrayal, life and death.
This movie is a masterpiece in nearly every single catagory, the only thing I can argue that’s «bad» is the memorability, there isn’t many memorable scenes, since the visuals look pretty similar in every scene!
Now, it’s easily the most vibrancy I’ve ever seen in a movie, going from colors, lighting, even the storyline, which is incredibly bittersweet. This movie shows the reality in how many lives their life. Always make sure, you’ll be remembered!
The antagonist is also great, never worship celebrities! You can like them, sure, but do not worship. Because they might not be, who you think they are. The movie also shows reality in how (some) musicians, acts badly towards one another. (I won’t spoil! Don’t worry.)
Overall? It’s a beautiful movie, and it’s heavily recommended to anyone who likes good movies, that’s also heavy, but very hopeful!
