Hamnet - This deserved the Oscar
Hamnet is a movie released in 2025, directed by Chloé Zhou. The movie follows William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife, Agnes (Jessie Buckley). They celebrate the birth of their son, Hamnet. (Noah Jupe) However, tragedy strikes when he dies at a easily age due to a plague. It inspires William to write his timeless play «Hamlet».
Well, I’m stuck with 2 hours of straight depression. Now, even if I didn’t cry, I was still very sad, and I have never experienced such silence when leaving the theatre hall. Because of how well the movie was written. And it’s a utter surprise to me how great the cinematography was, and didn’t win it. But Jessie most definitely deserved the Oscar for her timeless performance in this movie, it was very emotional. Especially the birth sequences were extremely sad due to the backflashes.
There is literally no bad things with this movie, if I had to pick just a tiny detail, Is that the runtime dragged a bit, but I ain’t bothered by pacing, as my favorite movie is 2001.
Overall? This is history lesson, and you should watch it, no matter what age you are.
