Cure

10/10 Cure by Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a film that left me feeling a way I haven’t felt after a horror since I first watched The Shining a number of years ago. This movie just knows exactly what to do to make you on edge, freaked out, uneasy whatever you want to call it but it does its job very well. This film is not an easy watch however as it’s very heavy thematically dealing with issues such as societal and social pressure, internalised problems, the human psyche and hypnotism but god don’t let the heaviness put you off it’s one that *must *be seen. It is a masterclass in building tension, unease and paranoia in a film and is a must watch for anyone interested in movies that take their time to achieve what they want to achieve. The performances here are nuts too with some top tier performances particularly from Kōki Yakusho and Masato Hagiwara, the latter giving one of the most chilling and scary performances in a movie I’ve seen in a good bit. Watch this film, rn.
