Django Unchained
This is a triumphant film that laughs in the face of racism and proclaims the power that can rise when one is set free from oppression. Everything about this film is so over-the-top and I love it, from the cartoony gunshots that send people flying to the immaculate wardrobe and fantastic soundtrack. Django and Dr Schulz's friendship is beautiful, and it's made even more so when we see the relationship between Stephen and Calvin, which has hate as its foundation rather than respect. The story of Django Unchained is masterful and not a single minute of the near three hour runtime feels wasted. There's honestly nothing negative I can say about this film — it's an absolute must-watch for everyone, if not for the lovable Dr Schulz or Di Caprio's performance as the villainous Calvin Candie, then for the lovely relationship between Django and Broomhilda or the insane amount of aura that Jamie Foxx exudes as the title character.
And how could I review this without mentioning "the bag scene"? Seeing these white supremacists squabble over something as silly as the poor placement of eyeholes in a bag is hilariously absurd, and it's this absurdity that completely dismantles the racist ideologies carried by such people into beliefs rooted in utter stupidity and total ignorance. I don't know how Quentin Tarantino does it, but he's been dropping banger after banger for a long time and I'm all here for it. Go watch this film!
