Flickering Lights
I’m done pretending this isn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen.
It starts off like a regular dark comedy: four random criminals drinking, swearing, stealing — and then boom, and you’re sitting there covered in goosebumps.
For all the violence and black humor, the film is FILLED with this weird warmth and a kind of sincere love I’ve never felt even from disney stuff. The little flashbacks felt like their own mini-movies, each ending with a quiet “oh now I get it.”
The scene where they all accidentally meet at the station for the first time is just… beautiful. Four little strangers with empty eyes, brought together by shared pain. No drama, no speeches, just honest silence.
And despite all the shit in their pasts, they find each other, grow up, become a family. The house they move into is falling apart — but it becomes their safe place. They fix it up, and in a way, fix themselves too.
What I love most about this movie is how honest it is. It’s not some manipulative tearjerker. It hits you with this quiet, real kind of sadness. That’s what stuck with me.
I love Flickering Lights. I’ll rewatch it every time I need to feel a little warmth.
