Django Unchained
A critique of slavery and racism, wrapped in an action-packed, brutal, and historically accurate revenge story with stunning visuals, thrilling shootouts, powerful music, and an incredible cast. Samuel L. Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and Jamie Foxx were convincing and simply outstanding. Unfortunately, Calvin Candie as the villain disappointed me, because I had seen him compared on social media to Hannibal Lecter and other all-time great villains. I’m not saying he wasn’t good, or that Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t portray him well, or even that he was a bad villain, I had just expected more. He had charisma and power, but no brains. He needed Steven, that bastard, to realize he was being tricked. I was a huge fan of Django and Dr. Schultz, so I was really sad when Schultz died. Luckily, Django avenged him, and the final scene where the Candie mansion exploded was just awesome.
