Dark
Dark is a very unique film. It's truly one of it's kind. It's a Snyder Cut except with no studio support, But my God its really good
Schrader takes a conventional thriller story and uses it as a framework to tell a story about Dementia, which is told entirely through the film's experimental style. A normal scene with Lake walking will suddenly get distorted and zoom into his face, images will stack on top of each other, a cigarette being put out will be shown as a giant bolt of lightening striking earth. Truly mind boggling how Schrader was able to change Dying Of The Light into THIS, mainly through editing, no scenes were actually added as far as I'm concerned.
Also Nicholas Cage's performance is incredible, i think it's already a popular opinion that Nic Cage is a fucking great actor but jeez he truly gives his all and more here. The juxtaposition between his mental deterioration and Banir's physical deterioration- one can talk about his dementia openly regardless of if he wants to or not and one has to escort a single professor thousand of kilometers away just for a talk about his physical state.
i love schrader
