Stalker
I imagine if drone was a genre of film then Stalker would be its F#A#. All this interwoven surrealism and philosophy in slow motion really makes it feel like a godspeed you black emperor or swans project. If you appreciate exclusively static shots, this is for you. If you love drone this is for you. Real ones know it’s just building up the Atmosphere for even deeper impact! Even still this isolated journey offers many things to get hyperfixated on. The dynamics between the stalker, writer, and professor are super cool and the ideologies they represent are super fascinating. The writer was super real and the professor looked like shepgold. The human themes discussed here really tied this whole world together. I was mad geeked pondering these ethical and existential dilemmas about humanity through this apocalyptic lense, with the Zone and more importantly the Room (whoever steps in it is granted their one deepest desire like shitt) I’m just sitting here after every scene wondering if I even processed any of that.
It’s true. Tarkovsky can take you to lands far far away. Lands you’ve only seen in your dreams. It’s a blessing we can actually rewatch these little things called movies. So yea just press play and spark up and try to get something out of it. I’m still in a chokehold writing all this like. Dude the atmosphere dude oh my god, the eeriness the loneliness and devastation got me in a trance! The dialogue and visuals and pacing were all used as DEvices! to manifest this extreme sense of solitude and realism within this supernatural apocalyptic world. Tarkovsky you absolute legend of cinema dude was the god of contemplative sci fi fr
